Shaquil Barrett informs Buccaneers of intent to sign franchise tender

by Adam Koffler | Dolphins Correspondent | Fri, Jul 10th 7:34pm EDT

LB Shaquil Barrett informed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday that he intends to sign his franchise tender, however he’a filed a grievance with the NFLPA to be tagged as a DE and not a LB, a difference of $2M. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Per PFF, Barrett accounted for 81 total pressures in 2019, tied for fourth among all edge defenders. Barrett had a record-setting year with the Bucs last season, recording 19.5 sacks and 58 tackles. The five-year pro wants to be paid top dollar if he’s going to play on the franchise tender, hence his request to be labeled as a DE rather than a LB. Barrett will become a highly-coveted free agent after this season should he not come to a long-term extension with the Buccaneers prior to the league’s July 15 deadline.
