A.J. Green unlikely to get extension prior to deadline, will play on tag

According to a source, A.J. Green and the Cincinnati Bengals are unlikely to come to terms on a multi-year contract extension prior to today’s July 15 deadline, and therefore Green is likely to play this season on the franchise tag. (Jeremy Fowler on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

He hasn’t officially signed it yet, but the one-year franchise tag will pay Green a sizable $17.9M this season which isn’t bad considering he missed all of last season due to injury. Green will hope to build chemistry quickly with his new quarterback and bounce back in a big-way. When healthy, he’s one of the best wide receivers in the game. Currently, Green is ranked as WR29 in the ECR. He’s certainly a risky proposition, but his suppressed price tag could be appealing to those fantasy drafters who wait on wide receivers.
