With Jalen Hurd going down with a likely torn ACL, 49ers third-year WR Dante Pettis has really stepped up in practice and shown why he was selected in the second-round of the 2018 NFL Draft. (NBC Sports)

Pettis was making great catches all over the field. One area he has struggled with in two seasons has been his willingness to make the tough catches over the middle. With a major void at the wide receiver position now, If Pettis can earn the trust of Jimmy Garoppolo and the coaching staff, he could seize the opportunity as a starter with both Hurd and Deebo Samuel on the sidelines.
