DE Cameron Heyward unlikely have his contract renewed after this season, per Ed Bouchette of the Athletic. (The Athletic)

Fantasy Impact:

Heyward is set to become a free agent after this season and is currently owed $9.5 million in 2020. “Under normal circumstances, the Steelers may already have had a new contract signed by their defensive lineman and captain this deep into training camp. But it does not appear the team will negotiate a contract extension this year with him or anyone else,” Bouchette added. “We’re always looking at where we are, where we want to be, not only in 2020 but we have to keep in mind what the future holds for us in 2021 and beyond,” said Steelers GM Kevin Colbert. “And quite honestly, that’s a big unknown. We don’t know what we’re dealing with in future caps. We just have to be aware of that. We also have to be aware where we are in 2020, and if something makes sense, we’d have to consider it.” Heyward is unlikely to be re-signed by the Steelers and will become a free agent in 2021. The 31-year-old racked up 51 solo tackles, 9.0 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 16 games in 2019. Heyward is currently eighth among all defensive lineman in the latest expert consensus rankings.
