Marcus Mariota is "no threat" to overtake Derek Carr for the Raiders' starting QB job, per Vic Tafur of The Athletic. (The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact:
Mariota signed two-year, $17.6 million contract with $7.5 million guaranteed with Las Vegas during the off season. He is expected to backup Derek Carr and opposes "no threat" to push for the Raiders' starting QB job. "Mariota was brought in to push Carr for the starting job at some point, but has not been sharp at training camp and is no threat for the starting role," Tafur added. “I think he’s been everything as advertised as a person,” said Raiders' GM MIke Mayock. “He was coming off some physical stuff. Jon and I talked to Marcus about kind of rebuilding from the ground up, his footwork. Just coming off the injuries. And he’s a sponge. He’s been an absolute sponge.” Mariota is viewed as a rebuilding project and is expected to backup Carr. The 26-year-old struggled with the Titans in 2019, throwing for 1,203 yards and a 7:2 TD:INT across seven games. Mariota is a dart throw in Superflex-league formats.
