Marcus Mariota could be release candidate, per Rapoport

In an interesting development, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network speculates that the Raiders could release backup quarterback Marcus Mariota rather than trade him. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

This entire idea stems from Mariota's contract, which would pay him $200K for every game he starts and a total of $325K for every game he wins in 2021. Since teams interested in Mariota view him as a starter, any trade would involve more than just his $10.625 million base salary. With teams hesitant to shell out a draft pick and nearly $15 million for the 27-year-old, a release could be more likely. No matter what happens, Mariota should garner plenty of interest this offseason thanks to his impressive stat line over six seasons (64 games) in the NFL.
