Talking to reporters Saturday, Dallas Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said WR Michael Gallup made a “huge step” this offseason, and that “Michael is playing all three receiver positions.” McCarthy added playing all three receiver positions gives Gallup "more opportunities" in the passing game. Because of the difference in target distance for the three receiver roles - X, Z, and slot - in an offense, the variety in Gallup's alignment, route tree gives the WR more opportunities at short and medium depth targets, according to Michael Gehlken. Entering a contract year, Gallup's less than two years removed from a 66-catch, 1,107-yard season. Last season, the WR was essentially a deep threat. Gallup totaled an 11.8 average target distance, 17 deep targets, and a 27.4% air yards share.
