Tyrann Mathieu heavily linked to Saints

The Saints are viewed as one of the top landing spots for impending free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu, according to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network. (Pro Football Network)

Fantasy Impact:

Mathieu makes sense with the Saints for plenty of reasons. First of all, New Orleans is set to lose safety Marcus Williams during free agency, meaning Mathieu fills a positional need. Additionally, the star safety grew up in New Orleans and spent his college career at LSU, so signing with the Saints would represent a homecoming of sorts. The idea of returning to Louisiana apparently appeals to Mathieu, with Wilson noting that the Saints "are of high interest to him, and it’s a mutual situation of interest." The three-time Pro Bowler appeared in 16 games this past season, racking up 76 tackles, three interceptions, and one sack. He is viewed as a key leader on and off the field. Mathieu will also generate interest from teams like the Ravens, suggests Wilson. Furthermore, the Chiefs, who employed Mathieu in 2021 and are letting him test the open market, will surely be in the mix, too.
