Mike Gesicki hasn't discussed new contract in Miami

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, TE Mike Gesicki, who was franchise-tagged by the Miami Dolphins this offseason, has not had discussions with the team regarding an extension. However, Garafolo expects him to play this season on the tag. (Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Gesicki set career-high numbers in 2021 with 73 catches and 780 yards on 112 targets, the third-highest mark by any tight end last season. As a result, the Dolphins gave the Penn State product the franchise tag, but the team has not discussed his future beyond 2022. The introduction of WR Tyreek Hill brings an interesting fold into the offense as the Dolphins await a breakout season for QB Tua Tagovailoa, but Hill, along with Waddle, may step on Gesicki's toes a bit. Calling Gesicki a tight end may be a misnomer, especially since he ran a tight-end league-high rate of 92% of his routes from the slot or out wide in 2021, according to Pro Football Focus. With both Hill and WR Jaylen Waddle providing inside-out versatility, this season may serve to see how Gesicki functions in a new-look Dolphins offense led by first-year head coach Mike McDaniel. He's currently being drafted as the TE11 in PPR formats, according to FantasyPros, which is equal to his highest finish at the position, which he accomplished in both 2019 and 2021.
