Samaje Perine placed on PUP list

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Saturday that RB Samaje Perine will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. (NFL.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Perine, who will begin camp with an unspecified injury, has functioned as the Bengals’ primary backup RB and third-down RB during the past two seasons. Joe Mixon remains the team's unquestioned starting RB, but the Bengals coaching staff stated recently that they prefer to pull him off the field on most third downs to keep him fresh even though he is a capable pass catcher. This coaching philosophy has led to Perine receiving opportunities on the field, but numerous offseason reports have indicated that second-year RB Chris Evans could push Perine this offseason for passing down duties. Perine missing time in training camp allows Evans to show the coaches that he deserves to earn more snaps which in turn could phase Perine out of the offense. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues and leagues with deep rosters will want to monitor the Bengals’ backup RB competition throughout training camp, but a speculative Evans add might be a wise move if you have the roster space.
