James Cook sees limited action Friday

James Cook was active in a limited role against the Panthers. The rookie finished with three carries for 13 yards, adding a catch for no gain as well.

Fantasy Impact:

Cook playing at all is a bit of a red flag considering not only Devin Singletary, but Zack Moss as well, sat out with the Buffalo starters Friday. However, Cook is a rookie who needs NFL-level game reps much more than the two guys who may start the season above him on the depth chart. The Bills attempted to sign J.D. McKissic from Washington this offseason, but McKissic opted to stay with the Commanders. The Bills then decided to spend a second-round pick on Cook, a pass-catching specialist at Georgia who was known for his big-play ability. It is clear that Buffalo would like to involve an RB in their passing game more this season, and there is no reason to think that won't be beneficial for Cook. He may take a little while to see many touches, which tends to happen with rookie RBs, but if he does start to come on late in the season he could be big for fantasy managers down the stretch. Draft Cook as a high upside bench piece, with obvious upside in PPR and dynasty formats.
