Charles Clay doesn't play

by Mike Mahern | Sat, Aug 27th 2:13am EDT

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay did not participate in the team's third pre-season game against the Washington Redskins Friday night, as first reported on the team's official website. The decision was not injury related - Head Coach Rex Ryan held out or severely limited several key players as a precautionary measure, having lost several players already in recent weeks to injury and/or suspension. "At this point it’s most important for us to get to the opening game healthy," Ryan said. "We have to be smart about it.” (BuffaloBills.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Clay's absence from the game isn't anything to concern yourself with - but the same could be said for his prospects in fantasy. He is a talented player, and a key cog in the Bills offense, but his track record is that of a player with greater value to the Bills than to your fantasy roster. There have been rumblings this off-season about an increased role for him in the coming season, but until/unless he demonstrates more consistent production, Clay is a player barely on the fringe of fantasy relevance.
