Rashad Jennings 'unlikely' to play in Week 4

ESPN's Jordan Raanan is reporting that New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (thumb) is "unlikely" to play in Week 4's contest against the Minnesota Vikings. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Jennings, who is dealing with a thumb injury, "appears to be a long-shot" to play in Monday night's matchup of what could be not only a defensive battle but a preview of a postseason encounter. New York is already down a rusher, however. The Giants learned earlier in the week that Shane Vereen suffered a triceps injury that will sideline him for an extended period of time but could ultimately turn into a season-ender for the reliable pass-catching back. Jennings practiced last week but was surprisingly designated as inactive for Week 3's loss to the Washington Redskins. A similar scenario seems to be playing out leading up to Week 4 as well. Jennings is participating at practice, but will likely be ruled out for the upcoming contest before kickoff. The Giants will likely lean on a committee of Orleans Darkwa, Bobby Rainey and Paul Perkins in Monday's tough matchup versus the Vikings if Jennings is, in fact, ruled out for the second consecutive week. For fantasy football purposes, Darkwa should be considered a low-end RB1 with Rainey garnering fantasy value in PPR formats. However, buyer beware. Minnesota's defense is arguably a top of the NFL and could stuff New York's running game. Start New York's rushers with caution in Week 4 and roll with a better option if anything is out there on the waiver wire.
