Allen Barbre traded to Broncos prior to being released

Allen Barbre was released by the Eagles on Wednesday, according to an announcement by the team. However, prior to being officially released, Barbre was actually traded to the Denver Broncos for a conditional 2019 draft pick, the team announced.

Fantasy Impact

Barbre is a versatile reserve lineman, and the Broncos were apparently concerned about him being claimed or signed by someone else, so they swooped in and made a deal with the Eagles before his release was finalized with the league. He now figures to compete for a roster spot and playing time in Denver

Allen Barbre released by Eagles

Allen Barbre has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Wednesday. By releasing Barbre, the team will save $2.1 million in cap space.

Fantasy Impact

The Eagles have plenty of depth on the interior of their offensive line, but Barbre had proven to be valuable in the past due to his ability to play both guard and tackle. Ultimately, the team decided to move forward with second-year player Isaac Seumalo as the starting left guard, making Barbre a cap-casualty.

Allen Barbre in danger of being cut by Eagles?

The Philadelphia Eagles could cut Allen Barbre if he doesn’t beat out Isaac Seumalo for a starting job and Chance Warmack exceeds expectations, according to Matt Lombardo of NJ.com. Lombardo says Seumalo has the inside track for the starting left guard job, and there is stiff competition for reserve linemen between Barbre, Warmack, and Stefan Wisniewski.

Fantasy Impact

Barbre has been a solid reserve guard/tackle swingman for the Eagles the last couple years, and they would probably like to hang onto him if only for his versatility. While Lombardo only mentions the competition between interior lineman regarding Barbre's spot on the roster, the Eagles will also have to feel comfortable enough with their tackle depth in order to consider releasing him. So, as much as Barbre may be competing with the likes of Wisniewski, Warmack, and Seumalo on the inside, keep an eye on second-year tackle Dillon Gordon in training camp before writing off Barbre.
