Free agent OL Eugene Monroe announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday following a seven-year career in the league. "It’s time I put my health and my family first. It’s time for me to retire," Monroe said via his personal Twitter account.

Eugene Monroe retired from the NFL on Thursday. Monroe played seven NFL seasons starting with the Jacksonville Jaguars and most recently with the Baltimore Ravens.

Eugene Monroe taking his time in finding his new club

Former Baltimore Ravens OT Eugene Monroe appears to be in "no rush" to find his new team since being released earlier in the month. "I'm waiting on the best situation for me. What that looks like, time will tell," Monroe told the media. "I've been playing in this league for a long time, successfully so, especially when I've been healthy. I'm in no rush, but I'm certainly very respectful of the opportunity that I've been presented with. By no means am I purposely dragging anyone along. However, I'm going into my eighth year in the NFL, and I want to make a wise decision."

Fantasy Impact

Eugene Monroe is said to be the most in-demand free agent remaining on the open market. The veteran left tackle only played in six games last season with the Ravens after being hampered by a shoulder injury that forced him onto the injured reserve list. When healthy, Monroe is still a dominant force on the offensive line and teams like the Giants and Seahawks could still be in the running for his services.

Eugene Monroe released by Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have released veteran offensive lineman Eugene Monroe on Monday. The Ravens were reportedly involved in trade negotiations with the Giants involving Monroe but the transaction fell through.

Fantasy Impact

Eugene Monore was released by the Ravens on Wednesday. The seven-year veteran was likely released in time for him to find a new destination before the start of training camp as the left tackle position is arguably the most important on the line. Monroe was at one point one of the beat at his position and will likely catch on with a new organization sooner rather than later. The Giants and Seahawks are potential destinations for Monroe.
