Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | All we've heard out of Broncos camp is that they may be regretting their decision to pay Gordon all that free agent money, as Lindsay has looked like the better back. It's not surprising to those who've watched Lindsay over the last two years. There have been just nine running backs who've totaled 2,000 rushing yards over the last two years: Ezekiel Elliott, Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffrey, Chris Carson, Saquon Barkley, Joe Mixon, Todd Gurley, and Lindsay. It'll be interesting to see if this is a true 50/50 timeshare under Pat Shurmur. The Titans allowed the 13th-most fantasy points to running backs last year, with much of that production coming through the air, as they allowed 194.7 PPR points through the air alone, which ranked as the eighth-most in the league. I was guessing we'd see Gordon as the starter and getting a 55/45 split from the start, though it's also worth noting Gordon has reportedly had trouble adjusting to the Denver altitude. This could benefit Lindsay in the early going. Lindsay did total 70 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries against the Titans last year, too. For now, we must consider them both RB3s until we see what the true split is. Gordon likely gets first shot at goal-line work, so I'll say he has the slight edge, but it's not much. | Hunt should be an interesting play this week, as the Browns are heavy underdogs in this game. His splits in wins/losses weren't nearly as bad as Chubb's. Still, you worry about the potential lack of plays for the Browns offense this week, as Stefanski averaged just 60.4 plays per game in Minnesota last year, combined with the Ravens opponents averaging just 57.6 plays per game. It seems somewhat unlikely that Hunt winds up with more than 10-12 touches this week, and it's not a great matchup against a defense that allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points in 2019. Because of that, Hunt should be considered a somewhat low-upside RB3/flex play. |
Isaiah Sirois FantasyPros | I don't know what to expect out of Denver's backfield quite yet. There hasn't been much good news surrounding Melvin Gordon out of camp -- he's been struggling with the altitude in Denver, and he suffered a minor rib injury just a week ago. That said, we should expect him to get the majority of the carries for Denver, even if it's a slim one, and that level of volume should help him earn a low-end RB2 finish. The Titans weren't great against the run last year, and the loss of Jurrell Casey (to Denver, no less) will help Gordon put up points. | The BettingPros consensus odds have the Ravens favored by 7.5 points, and that means we can expect the Browns to pass frequently on Sunday. Hunt should be a prime beneficiary of Cleveland's negative game script, and I'd look for him to get plenty of volume out of the backfield and the slot. He should reward his drafters with a low-end RB2 performance this weekend. |
Jacob Wayne Lineups | The Titans were a below-average run defense last year, ranking 20th in fantasy points allowed to running backs, and could get worse after losing stalwart Jurrell Casey. We also know the Broncos want to establish the ground game early on this season after their offseason investments in that regard. However, it's hard to know how the backfield work will be split between Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay. Both players should be viewed as high-upside flex options for Week 1 until we know more about the team's plans. | In what should be a matchup that forces the Browns to throw the ball more than they might like, I love Kareem Hunt as a high-upside flex option. He is a superstar athlete and can produce big numbers with a limited workload. He's also the better pass-catcher than Chubb, and if the Browns fall behind in this game Hunt should see a ton of playing time. Hunt may even play out of the slot at times this season, a role that would offer tremendous fantasy value. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The Titans were 19th against fantasy running backs, but Gordon is a bit of an unknown on an offense that is in a state of transition with Drew Lock under center and a deep RBBC. He is a dicey RB2 option at home. |
