Site Rankings FullTime Fantasy | Gets a big bump if Evans sits.
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | I'm pretty sure Conner and the other running backs will be happy to have Roethlisberger back under center, as it'll surely force defenses to be honest. The Giants defense was horrendous last year, but their run defense was better than the pass, as they allowed just 0.78 PPR points per opportunity last year, which ranked as the seventh fewest in football. They actually held opposing running backs to just 3.96 yards per attempt, making them one of just eight teams who allowed fewer than four yards per carry. It's a new defense under Joe Judge, so we can't automatically assume that all remains status quo, especially considering how bad their secondary was last year. It's possible they place more emphasis on slowing down teams through the air this year, though they may not have the talent to do so. Whatever the case, it's a near-certainty that Conner touches the ball 18-plus times in a game they're favored, automatically bumping him into RB2 territory. Knowing the Steelers will likely take it slow in Roethlisberger's return, we could see them lean on Conner even more than normal. He's a safe low-end RB1/high-end RB2 this week with multiple touchdown potential. | Fournette has only been with the team for a week, so you can't expect much. He's nothing more than an emergency RB4/5-type option who you're hoping gets a goal-line plunge. Don't worry, there will be better weeks. |
Jacob Wayne Lineups | I was a little queasy to draft James Conner this season after how unproductive he was last year and how he's struggled to stay on the field. However, as long as he is healthy and playing in this offense, he's going to be productive for fantasy football. The Giants allowed the 18th-most fantasy points to running backs last year and I expect Conner to take advantage with a big Week 1. | Leonard Fournette might be in line to take over as the lead running back for the Buccaneers at some point this season, but it won't happen right away. Ronald Jones and LeSean McCoy may be ahead of Fournette on the priority list for the offense for Week 1 at least, which makes him an unexciting RB4 with some flex upside. |
Isaiah Sirois FantasyPros | Mike Tomlin called James Conner his workhorse earlier this week. That's good news for Conner, as the Pittsburgh star logged 215 carries just two seasons ago. With Ben Roethlisberger back in the lineup, opposing teams will have to take the passing game more seriously, and that should open up some opportunities for Conner. He's a safe bet at RB2 with low-end RB1 upside this week.
Kyle Yates FantasyPros | Fournette should see some touches in this matchup, but it might not be enough to be FLEX worthy. There's a possibility that Fournette takes on more of a workload in upcoming weeks, but it's going to be hard to trust him right away in this matchup. He's a RB4 at best this week.
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The Giants were 18th against fantasy running backs, if Conner is going to have a rebound season, it starts with a nice matchup against the Giants D. |
