Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The Rams were 14th against fantasy wide receivers, Cooper will have to contend with Jalen Ramsey, but he should still be in the WR2 discussion. | The Jaguars are in complete rebuild mode this year and Hilton should have a new lease on life with Philip Rivers behind center. Hilton is a WR2 with upside in the opener. |
Kevin Wheeler The Draft Zone | Cooper is likely to see a lot of Jalen Ramsey in Sunday night's matchup with the Rams.
Jacob Wayne Lineups | Amari Cooper has been recovering from a hamstring injury for the past couple of week and while he's reportedly ready to play in full in Week 1, it wouldn't shock me to see him suffer a setback before the game. Even if he does play in full, he would likely draw shadow coverage from Jalen Ramsey, one of the best corners in football. With so many weapons in this offense, the Cowboys don't need Cooper to win and I can see Michael Gallup coming up with a huge performance in Week 1. If you drafted Cooper, you're probably not benching him, but just temper your expectations for this week. | T.Y. Hilton has to be thrilled about getting a massive improvement at quarterback as the Colts shift from Jacoby Brissett and Brian Hoyer to Philip Rivers. The Jaguars' defense is putrid across the board, meaning the Colts may not need to throw a ton in this game. However, Hilton is by far the best receiver on this team and this is an easy opportunity for Rivers to establish good early-season chemistry with his new top receiver. While the passing volume is a concern, Hilton should be viewed as a solid WR2 this week. |
Isaiah Sirois FantasyPros | Finally, T.Y. Hilton has a gunslinger throwing him the ball again! Two of Philip Rivers' wide receivers finished in the top-12 for air yards last season (Keenan Allen and Mike Williams), and while not all of those targets were catchable, Hilton should see enough deep looks this week to post at least a WR3 finish. He should have an easy job, given that the Jaguars purged their roster of talent in the offseason, and cornerbacks D.J. Hayden and C.J. Henderson don't seem like they'll be able to stop Hilton on every play. My only concern here is that the Colts could get out to an early lead without a big play from Hilton and then run the ball. That said, I'm still penciling him in for at least a WR3 result.
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | The Cowboys have allowed Cooper to take some practices off leading up to the season, which has caused panic among fantasy land. Mike McCarthy said they're simply trying to lessen his reps as a veteran, though it's a bit worrisome considering Cooper's injury history. Another thing that's worrisome about this week is a potential shadow date with Jalen Ramsey. These two met last year where Cooper saw just two targets, catching one for 19 yards. Both targets were in the first 10 minutes of the game and that was it. He may have been masking an injury through that game, too, as he took a big hit from Ramsey on his lone reception. Cooper is talented enough to get open against any cornerback, but with all the options in the Cowboys offense, there's no need to force it. The Rams cornerback unit behind Ramsey isn't what you'd call good, so if Ramsey doesn't shadow, Cooper can go bananas. Under a new defensive coordinator in 2020, we don't know how the Rams defense will approach this trio of wide receivers. When you combine the potential shadow situation with his undisclosed injury, Cooper has the looks of a boom/bust WR2/3-type option this week. | After missing the start of training camp with a hamstring, Hilton came back and reportedly became Philip Rivers' favorite target. The Jaguars used to be a team to fear for wide receivers, as Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye were potentially the best duo in the league. Those days are gone. The starting cornerbacks for the Jaguars this year will be first-round rookie C.J. Henderson and Tre Herndon. We know that Henderson has never seen NFL game action, not even preseason. Herndon is someone who played well in a pinch last year, allowing 643 yards and four touchdowns on 76 targets in coverage, though he never saw opposing No. 1 receivers. They're likely going to play sides here, so Frank Reich and Rivers can pick/choose their matchup for Hilton. He's the one sturdy presence in the passing game and should see six-plus targets here, though you have to wonder how much the Colts need to drop back and pass while heavy favorites. If Hilton is healthy, which it appears he is, you want to start him as a WR3. It's best to be cautious in DFS, as it's his first game action with a new quarterback. |
Kyle Yates FantasyPros | The last news that we have on Cooper was that he's missed practices or been limited in them recently. That doesn't exactly instill confidence in starting someone that you drafted early on and need to rely on. With that being said, Cooper also has to deal with the fact that he's most likely going to be shadowed by newly PAID Jalen Ramsey. With the other options on this team, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Dak look Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, and Blake Jarwin's way more than Cooper this week. Cooper's not a "must sit" player by any means, but expectations need to be managed going into Sunday Night Football. |
