| Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | Injuries and a steep decline in rushing production cratered Lamar Jackson's fantasy value in 2025. After finishing QB1 in fantasy scoring in 2024, Jackson plummeted to a QB20 fantasy finish last season and was QB16 in fantasy points per game at the position. Jackson lost three games to an early-season hamstring injury and one game to a late-season back injury. He also dealt with knee, ankle, and toe issues that may have contributed to the sharp drop-off in his rushing numbers. In his first six seasons as a full-time starter, Jackson averaged 10 rushing attempts and 63 rushing yards per game. In 2026, he averaged 5.2 rushing attempts and 26.8 rushing yards per game. Jackson has been an elite fantasy scorer at the position for so long that it's reasonable to think better health will propel him to another high-end QB1 season. It's worth noting, however, that Jackson will be working with a new offensive coordinator, 29-year-old Declan Doyle, a former assistant to Bears head coach Ben Johnson. | Entering the final year of a burdensome five-year, $230 million contract that has been an albatross around the neck of the Cleveland Browns, Deshaun Watson will compete with second-year man Shedeur Sanders to be the Browns' Week 1 starter. An electric dual-threat quarterback early in his career, Watson has been a flop since being traded to the Browns in 2022. The oft-injured Watson has started only 19 games for Cleveland over the last four seasons. He's averaged just 6.0 yards per pass attempt and 177.1 passing yards per start with the Browns. Watson has at least offered a little bit of rushing value, averaging 24.5 rushing yards per game since the trade. But it's fair to wonder whether that rushing potential still exists after a pair of Achilles tears, the latter of which sidelined Watson for all of 2025. Watson is no more than a late-round option in superflex leagues. |
| Derek Brown FantasyPros | Yes, I'm lower than consensus with Lamar Jackson this season, but I fully acknowledge his upside. Prior to 2025, in his previous six seasons, he logged three inside as the QB3 or higher in fantasy points per game (QB3, QB1, QB1), but last season's production was frightening. Last season, in Weeks 9-18, he was the QB20 in fantasy points per game. During that stretch, among 34 qualifying quarterbacks, he ranked 33rd in highly accurate throw rate, 26th in catchable target rate, and 31st in hero throw rate (per Fantasy Points Data). Jackson is also coming off a career-worst 26.8 rushing yards per game with the second-lowest yards per carry of his career. Can we chalk a lot of that up to his injuries last year? Yes, possibly, but even if he bounces back in this department, the question is how much. Jackson will be operating behind a reworked offensive line with a new offensive playcaller and with a questionable receiving depth chart behind Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews. Could everything gel this season and he be the QB1 in fantasy points per game again? Yep, that's possible, but where he's being drafted is baking in that as a near certainty when it's not. I won't discourage anyone for taking the swing on Jackson in any draft, but I won't be in 2026 unless he slips quite far past his current ADP. | |
