The Maple Leafs sent 22-year-old defenceman Andrew Nielsen to their AHL affiliate the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday. (Leafs PR on Twitter)

The future remains bright for Toronto's young defenceman, who at 6'3" and 220 pounds seems born to man the blue line. Nielsen gave Leafs fans a taste of just how powerful a force he can be in a skirmish he initiated with Buffalo center Tage Thompson in a pre-season game on September 22nd. He'll continue to work to establish himself as one of the game's up-and-coming big, hard-shot, two-way defenders —with crisp passing skills to boot.
