In his first two games of the preseason, Auston Matthews buried two goals against the Senators and one goal and an assist against the Sabres. He fired seven shots on net between the two games combined.
Big things are expected for the 22-year-old once again, and this start presents no reason to be hesitant on your assessment of Matthews. Early on, he's been lining up with a pair of skilled Swedes, William Nylander and Andreas Johnsson, on his wings. This was something Mike Babcock shied away from last season after Nylander's contract dispute. Not to get too ahead of ourselves, but Nylander has assisted on all three of his goals so far. This could be a very beneficial relationship for all involved.
