Semyon Varlamov saved all 29 shots he faced Tuesday versus the Capitals. The Islanders needed all of that in a 1-0 victory to enter into a first-place tie with Washington.

Varlamov has had a long career, with two great seasons and two terrible ones. Overall, he has been slightly above average. So far this season, his numbers have been better than his career averages.
