I’m already stressed. Last week I noticed that fantasy football magazines have already made their way to the newsstands, and I’m starting to get daily emails from fantasy advice sites. Both are painful reminders that NFL 2010 is right around the corner. Yes, painful. I used to love fantasy football but this year I’m totally stressed about it.
Maybe it’s the heightened level of expectations that I have for myself. I was runner up in my main league last year. Second place isn’t so bad, but it’s the worst when you lose to the laziest guy in the league (we’re talking auto-draft, zero trade offers, and weeks where you wonder if he’s even going to set his lineup!). You poker players know the feeling I’m talking about. You’re all in with pocket rockets and the bozo with Jack-8 decides to call you…and talks trash after he makes his straight! I got robbed and I’m still bitter about it.
Or maybe I’m stressed because I know all the guys in my league are going to have quality material to work with when they find out that I’m launching a fantasy football website. I can already feel the jabs coming… “Dude, you can’t even win in our league but you’re launching a fantasy expert site?” Man, I better freaking win my league this year or else I might as well run away to Mexico and start following the other football.
Speaking of launching a website, I guess that’s pretty stressful too. The fact that you’re reading this means we did launch the site, but all the really cool stuff (unlike this rant about my runner up finish last year) goes live in a few weeks. So what do we have brewing at FantasyPros? Are we trying to be the next Google, Zillow, Kayak, or Yelp for fantasy sports? Well, with a little luck, a lot of hard work, and probably a few more years of being completely stressed out, hopefully we’ll build something that’s super useful for you guys.
