Lucky for you guys, we don’t really give any of our own personal fantasy advice. FantasyPros is about finding, organizing, and promoting the advice of the best experts… and we don’t exactly qualify for “best experts” status. But if you’ve seen our Consensus Expert Rankings, you know that we pull together a ton of ranking data for you to use. Here’s one of the ways I plan on using this data when I start my own pre draft cramming session.
If you take a look at our RB Consensus Rankings for Standard Leagues, the spread between the Best and Worst ranks stand out for a few Top 20 RBs. One of these guys is Jamaal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs. Here’s the ranking info we have on him:
Consensus Expert Rank – RB #15
Average Draft Position – RB #12
Best Expert Rank – RB #9
Worst Expert Rank – RB #26
I’m not going to talk through how to use ADP in your draft strategy since there’s plenty of that advice that already exists. The unique data we provide you with is an instant look at exactly which experts love Jamaal and which experts hate him (relative to the consensus opinion). How instant? Click on this: Jamaal Charles.
In addition to seeing how a few of my favorite fantasy experts rank Jamaal, it’s very obvious that Christopher Harris of ESPN and the KFFL staff don’t see eye to eye. If you’re lazy like me, you’ll just note that Christopher Harris edged out KFFL (barely) in our RB Accuracy study from 2009 and lean toward dismissing that RB #26 ranking from KFFL. Man, RB #26 when he has an ADP of RB #12? That’s zero love for the guy.
If you’re an over achiever, you’ll want to dig further. Is KFFL reacting to his SOS? You can easily check out Jamaal’s SOS tab on that same player page. His schedule looks pretty average; slightly good if anything. Is it due to some recent news? I don’t know of anything major out of KC’s camp, but you can find out by clicking on the News tab on Jamaal’s player page (oops…that’s a “launching soon” feature of ours). Is regular news too old for your taste? Just click on Jamaal’s Tweets tab to see what people are saying…right now.
If you’re still perplexed and want to know the insight behind their ranking, I’d encourage you to visit KFFL’s site and search for articles related to Jamaal. We’re working on something to make this process faster for you. Until then you can rely on my Google skills. Here’s a link to their article on overvalued RBs. They basically think the presence of Thomas Jones, the need to learn a new offense, and the off season shoulder surgery are going to make him no better than an RB3 on your team.
Christopher Harris of ESPN, on the other hand, absolutely loves Jamaal Charles to the tune of a top 10 RB ranking. He’s dismissing Thomas Jones as a threat and thinks that Jamaal might be second only to Chris Johnson as a game breaker in the NFL.
Who you end up agreeing with is up to you. I just think it’s cool that you get to see all the expert opinions on one single page! And, since we’re keeping track of all these rankings for our 2010 accuracy study, you’ll get to see who was right at the end of the year.
Note: We update our expert rankings frequently, so don’t be shocked if by the time you read this post, the ranks mentioned don’t match what you see on our site.
