Pitcher
Chris Archer (TB): $15,600 @ CLE
There are none of the traditional “elite” SPs on the evening slate, and Archer can be had at a discount. The matchup isn’t the best, but the Indians strikeout at a decent clip, and Archer has elite K upside. At his salary, he’s hard to pass up considering the other options available.
Kyle Gibson (MIN): $11,200 vs. PHI
This is certainly a punt play, but I like it considering the opponent and salary. The Phillies are the Phillies, and Gibson has proven to be at least decent this season at times. He’s a solid favorite as his offense should be able to post a nice total against opposing starter Adam Morgan, giving Gibson a nice shot at a win.
Infield
Brian Dozier (MIN): $8,400 vs. PHI
As mentioned, Dozier and the Twins get to face (tee) off against Adam Morgan. Morgan has been bad this season, especially against right-handed batters. Dozier is one of two Twins in this lineup, and both players come at a relative discount considering their recent production and Wednesday’s matchup.
Mark Trumbo (BAL): $8,100 vs. SD
Trumbo just seems way underpriced. We all know how he’s produced this season, and he faces a well below average SP at home in the hitter haven that is Camden Yards. Erik Johnson has actually been a reverse-splits SP, which is why you’ll see a few Orioles RHH in this lineup.
Chris Davis (BAL): $10,000 vs. SD
Davis is not an Orioles’ RHP, but Johnson has been nearly as bad to lefties this season. Davis has struggled with consistency, but he has multi-hit games in each of his last two, and he provides multi-HR upside each and every game.
Outfield
Adam Jones (BAL): $9,300 vs. SD
Jones is the other Orioles’ RHH in this lineup. He’s an extremely streaky player, and I’m hoping he’s still in the middle of a hot stretch against a weak opposing SP.
Wil Myers (SD): $10,800 @ BAL
Like the O’s, Myers and the Padres also face off against a weak opposing SP in Mike Wright. Wright hasn’t been good against much of anyone, and this could realistically be his last start before demotion if he continues his struggles. Myers has two HRs in his last four games, along with two multi-hit games in that span.
Matt Kemp (SD): $9,200 @ BAL
I’m adding another Padre, as the offense gets a significant ballpark upgrade and gets to take on Wright. Kemp and the Padres could have another big night in Baltimore.
Utility
Eduardo Nunez (MIN): $8,400 vs. PHI
Nunez provides all kinds of speed/power upside at a reduced price. He’ll likely be batting leadoff against Morgan at home. Like Vegas, I like the Twins to score some runs Wednesday night.
Rougned Odor (TEX): $8,800 vs. CIN
This was the final selection, and I wasn’t overly thrilled with it. I didn’t feel there was another upgrade to be made elsewhere, and the remaining options in this salary range were underwhelming. The cons for Odor are that he’s batting lower in the order and is facing a pitcher that’s actually been decent against LHP this season. I don’t strongly agree with Vegas, as they have the Rangers as the highest scoring team on the night slate. But, since they’re the ones making money I’ll hedge my bets with one Ranger in this lineup.
