Ponce converted a strong spring into claiming a rotation spot early in the season with Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, and Shane Bieber sidelined. The right-hander captured the KBO League MVP award after posting an impressive 0.94 WHIP and 1.89 ERA to go along with 252 strikeouts over 29 starts (17-1) for the Hanwha Eagles.
