What is FantasyPros?

Now that I got my whining out of my system, I want to tell you a little bit about what we’re up to. We’re really excited about how things are coming along and we’re on target to launch our beta in just a few weeks!

In a nutshell, FantasyPros aggregates and rates expert advice from around the web to make it easy for you to make the best decisions. We want to make it dead simple for you to get fantasy advice you can trust. We’ll do this by:

  • Showing you who the best fantasy experts are, based on historical accuracy.fantasy experts
  • Providing consensus player rankings from the top fantasy experts.
  • Giving you an easy way to compare fantasy advice across multiple experts.

Here’s a little more detail on each…

Accuracy Assessments

Are you curious about which popular fantasy experts are the most accurate (or least accurate)? Well, we’ll be sharing our results soon and you might be surprised by the rankings. We know there have been other studies – we particularly like the FFLibrarian’s work – but our methodology is very different than anything else we’ve seen. Here’s how:

  • We assess weekly in-season projections and rankings, not once-a-year draft rankings. This is a huge difference because it gives us much more data to work with. Anyone can get lucky with a single draft list. We’re more interested in finding the experts that can prove they’re better over an entire season of providing weekly advice. Utilizing weekly rankings also almost completely eliminates the impact of unpredictable variables such as injuries, suspensions, and trades.
  • We assess player rankings that help users make the decisions they’re likely contemplating. Advice is only valuable if people actually want the advice. So you nailed AP as a top 4 RB. So what? Not only did everyone else nail the same thing, but most players never even had a chance to contemplate drafting AP vs. another player. We want to know how accurate the experts were on player decisions that actually matter. To do this, we go through a rigorous but logical process of simulating a large number of lineup decisions that fantasy players face each week, and we assess how often the experts make the right predictions.
  • We assess the benefit generated from the advice given, not just whether the advice was right or wrong. If your buddy tells you to start Beanie Wells over Ahmad Bradshaw and Beanie ends up scoring half a point more than Ahmad, you’re probably grateful but not buying the guy free beers. On the other hand, if Beanie crushes Ahmad by 15 points, your buddy’s probably waiting at the bar for his free round. We treat the experts the same way. No free beer, but we give credit based on the spread in fantasy points. Our accuracy measurement ultimately assesses how valuable each expert’s predictions are.

Expert Consensus Rankings

Basically, the cheatsheet of all cheatsheets! We’re pulling in expert rankings from across the web and giving you one simple list to work with.  We’ll also provide helpful information like best/worst rank for each player, ADP data and trends, and alerts for important news and advice related to each player. Even better, you’ll actually get to determine which experts you want as part of your consensus rankings! You can customize the experts to include based on:

  • Overall Accuracy. We make it easy to filter the consensus list to only include rankings from experts that scored well in our accuracy study.
  • Accuracy by Position. You can also filter the consensus rankings based on experts that ranked the highest for a particular position.
  • Your own custom list. Just select all the experts you trust and instantly get consensus rankings based on those experts only.

Side-by-Side Player Comparisons

If you’ve ever shopped for cars online, you know how convenient it is to see things laid out in a comparison chart, especially when you’re trying to compare 3 or 4 models. We’re doing the same thing to help you make the right player decisions for the draft and each week during the season (e.g. Who should I start?). We’ve developed a tool called FAST™ (Fantasy Advice Search Tool) that pulls together and organizes fantasy advice from around the web, specific to the players you’re comparing. Each FAST™ results page instantly gives you:

  • Each Expert’s Recommendation. You’ll see each expert lined up below the player he’s backing.
  • The Expert Consensus Opinion. You’ll see the % of experts recommending each player and, similar to our consensus rankings, you can filter this opinion based on historical accuracy.
  • Strength of Schedule (SOS). Full season, playoffs, first half, second half, or any other time-frame you want.
  • Historical Stats. Everyone has this stuff, but it’s super helpful when the info is lined up in a comparison chart format.
  • Relevant News, Articles, and Discussions. All specific to the players you’re comparing. It’s the perfect way to avoid having to dig through a bunch of stuff you don’t care about.

Over the next few weeks we’ll continue to describe what we have cooking and hopefully give you a taste of some of the insights we’ve gathered along the way. We would love any feedback or suggestions, so feel free to let us know what you think. To be informed of our launch you can register now.

Oh yeah, all the stuff I just mentioned is going to be absolutely FREE.
