Fantasy Baseball: Week 9 Guide

In baseball fashion, here’s a changeup with a slew of new articles to help get you geared up for your week 9 of fantasy baseball.

Rotoprofessor: Two-Start Pitchers For The Coming Week

There’s an abundant amount of options this week for two-start pitchers, but you likely only care about the ones that are available either through the waiver wire, or players that are on the fringe of whether to start or not. In this case, Ray Kuhn (Rotoprofessor) has your two-start options broken down into tiers along with additional notes on a few players. For example, Tommy Milone has two starts this week at home where he has a 1.80 ERA this season and his splits over 189.1 innings are 2.74 compared to 4.83 ERA on the road. Alfredo Simon (SP) Reds

Tier 3

A 2.31 ERA, 1.01 WHIP  and 6-2 record makes Simon one of the best starting pitchers this season. He’ll take on the Dodgers in Los Angeles where the park favors pitchers and while his second matchup is in Arizona, a more hitter friendly ballpark, the hitters themselves aren’t quite as frightening for pitchers. Simon has had plenty of quality starts which puts him in Kuhn’s Tier 3 of two-start options.

Tyler Skaggs (SP) Diamondbacks

Tier 4

Skaggs will hit the road this week, but he’ll be visiting pitcher friendly parks in Seattle and Oakland. His 4.14 ERA could improve, but his 1.13 WHIP keeps the bases clear. While he doesn’t provide many strikeouts, his two-starts this week help mitigate that putting him in Kuhn’s tier 4 of two-start pitchers.

Tanner Roark (SP) Nationals:

Roark has strong matchups this week against a road weary Marlins team and a banged up Rangers club. He’ll attempt to go pitch-for-pitch again Yu Darvish which may not end well, but he is still pitching well and does so especially well at home. The Marlins meanwhile average 3.43 runs per game on the road compared to 5.88 at home.

Drew Hutchison (SP) Blue Jays:

Hutchison has been pitching atrociously at home, but he goes up against the horrendous Royals and Rays offense so it evens out. His K/BB ratio is promising and the Blue Jays are playing well enough to make Hutchison worthy to keep an eye on.
