Giants Injury Update: Tim Hudson has Bone Spurs Removed

Injury

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Hudson underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle, according to Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News on Twitter. Pavlovic reports that Giants Assistant GM Bobby Evans said that Hudson felt discomfort as he ramped up his offseason workouts. Hudson’s expected recovery time is eight weeks, which would put him back in early March. The 39-year-old says he plans to retire after the season.

Fantasy Impact

While Hudson will miss a couple of weeks of Spring Training, he is expected to be ready for Opening Day. Even though he will turn 40 in 2015, Hudson still has some late-round value after putting up respectable numbers in 189.1 innings last season. Still, Hudson’s recovery and status close to the beginning of the season should be closely monitored, as most of him fantasy-worthy starts came in the first half last year before fading down the stretch.
