Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 4

Travis Wood faces an average Reds team early in the week

Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for pitchers who are less than 50% are owned that could be useful streamers for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo. Please note the probable pitcher matchups could change throughout the week due to rainouts or other circumstances, so be sure to check back before picking up and starting one of these recommendations.

Sunday 4/26

Travis Wood – Chicago Cubs (6% owned)
Matchup: vs. CIN

Wood has quietly put together a solid start to the 2015 season. He is largely unowned due to a disastrous 2014 season. Wood was, however, pretty good in 2013, as he put together a 9-12 season with a 3.11 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 200 innings pitched. He faces the Reds, an offense which has been quite average so far this season and is 12th in the league in strikeouts.

Monday 4/27

Vance Worley – Pittsburgh Pirates (3% owned)
Matchup: vs. CHC

Worley faces the Cubs on Monday, a team that he just shut down last Wednesday. He went five and two-thirds innings, giving up one unearned run and striking out five. He should be able to turn in a similar outing on Monday in Chicago.

Tuesday 4/28

J.A. Happ – Seattle Mariners (4% owned)
Matchup: vs. TEX

Happ has been one of the biggest surprises this season, as he’s pitched extremely well thus far. On Tuesday he takes on a Rangers offense that hasn’t hit well. Happ doesn’t strikeout many batters, but he’s on a roll and is quite capable of shutting down the Rangers.

Wednesday 4/29

Carlos Martinez – St. Louis Cardinals (50% owned)
Matchup: vs. PHI

Martinez is becoming a solid starting pitching option for the Cardinals. He has a 2.08 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 13 innings and faces the light-hitting Phillies in his April 29th start. He is well worth streaming and could very well remain on your roster for the remainder of the season if he keeps pitching so well.

Saturday 5/2

Hector Santiago – Los Angeles Angels (12% owned)
Matchup: vs. SFG

Santiago faces off against the San Francisco Giants, a team with an offense that is in the bottom third of the league in runs scored. Santiago has been pitching well in 2015, as he has a 2.45 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work.

Sunday 5/3

Jarred Cosart – Miami Marlins (5% owned)
Matchup: vs. PHI

Cosart faces the Phillies on May 2, a team that he held to one run in six innings of work on April 22. He doesn’t have much in the way of strikeout upside, as he only has 10 in 17.1 innings pitched, but the Phillies’ offense is last in the league in runs scored and is only batting .213 as a team. Cosart is a safe option to stream.
