Stephen Strasburg’s struggles continue, Jake Odorizzi is the latest ace to be injured, and ailments are starting to increase in offensive players. Here’s a quick look through the significant injuries you need to know about for next week.
- Adrian Beltre (TEX 3B) suffered a dislocated/lacerated left thumb while trying to break up a double play during a game on May 31st. He is expected to miss up to three weeks. Joey Gallo will take Beltre’s place but will to be sent back to the minors when Beltre returns.
- Archie Bradley (ARI SP) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder. In addition to any inflammation in his shoulder, your ratios have been inflamed if you have used Bradley since his return to action after being hit with a comebacker. An MRI showed no structural damage. Following the “rest and rehab” path, Bradley will miss 2-3 starts. Don’t drop him yet but, if he struggles upon his return, you can look elsewhere.
- Marlon Byrd (CIN OF) fractured his right wrist after being hit by a pitch during Tuesday’s game and was placed on the 15-day disabled list. While he was only batting .212, Byrd did have 10 home runs. This injury could also be the event that triggers the Reds’ rebuilding process.
- Khris Davis (MIL OF) had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and will be out for 4-6 weeks. Look for Gerardo Parra as a viable option for as long as Davis is out. Parra won’t provide the same power as Davis, but he won’t hurt you in any category.
- Josh Hamilton (TEX OF) was placed on the disabled list after suffering a Grade II strain of his left hamstring. He will miss at least four weeks.
- Howie Kendrick (LAD 2B) had an MRI on his right knee, which found no structural damage. He injured the knee while sliding into third base on Wednesday but is considered day-to-day. He might miss another game over the weekend but he appears to be on track to be full-speed by next week.
- Daniel Murphy (NYM 2B) was placed on the disabled list after straining his left quadriceps. Plan on him missing 2-4 weeks for now, but that time frame will change once the Mets release more information on the severity of Murphy’s injury.
- Wil Myers (SD OF) is expected to start a rehab assignment on Sunday, which is the last step in his return from his left wrist tendinitis. In weekly leagues, keep him on the bench. In daily leagues, if you need outfield help, be prepared to activate him by the end of the week.
- Jake Odorizzi (TB SP) left his last start early with tightness in his left oblique. I expect him to miss at least one start and it would not surprise me if Odorizzi was placed on the disabled list.
- Hunter Pence (SF OF) has been sidelined since Tuesday because of wrist tendinitis. It is expected that he will miss this weekend’s games, as well. X-rays and an MRI were negative, so there is no structural issue related to his fractured left forearm. The Giants have not indicated a DL stint is needed so, barring a setback this weekend, he should be in your lineup next week.
- Jace Peterson (ATL 2B) has been dealing with thumb soreness for a few weeks and could be out through the weekend after having an injection on Thursday. X-rays were negative, so the diagnosis by the Braves was a deep bone bruise. He should be good to go for all of next week, but don’t be surprised if this injury lingers throughout the season.
- Michael Pineda (NYY SP) will have his next start skipped as the Yankees try to limit his innings this year. Though there has not been any word of an injury, this is a situation that you should monitor. Even if the Yankees are just protecting Pineda as a result of his injuries over the last few years, this “extra rest” could be a precursor to New York shutting him down if the team falls out of playoff contention.
- Yasiel Puig (LAD OF) has had no setbacks in his latest rehab assignment and is expected to rejoin the team this weekend. He could be activated as early as today and should be in your lineup next week.
- Jorge Soler (CHC OF) was placed on the 15-day DL after spraining his left ankle. He should return after the minimum stay. Look at his replacement on the Cubs, Junior Lake, if you need a short-term fill-in.
- Stephen Strasburg (WAS SP) has been put on the disabled list with a left trapezius strain. He has been playing catch, but the Nationals have not announced a time frame for his return. Read more about his fantasy prognosis here.
