For the first time in two years, Tony Romo has spent the offseason preparing for the upcoming year, instead of rehabbing his back, something that he’s absolutely loving. According to David Moore of The Dallas Morning News, Romo believes that he’s getting stronger every passing day after his unfortunate pair of back surgeries.
It’s no surprise to hear this report about Romo, as he’s simply one of those players who hates missing any time. If his team is on the field, he wants to be the man under center who’s leading the charge. We’ve seen Romo battle through multiple injuries to lead his team back, while also seeing him attempt to play in situations where he probably (or definitely) shouldn’t. Regardless, Romo is doing something right, as he’s 35 years old and is coming off what was likely the best year of his entire pro career.
Romo produced stellar numbers that included 3,705 yards, 34 touchdowns, only nine interceptions and an impressive 69.9 completion percentage, the best of his career. Essentially, with Romo heading into a season when many doubted he’d even be able to get the Dallas Cowboys within striking distance of the playoffs, he completely overcame all odds and silenced doubters.
Fantasy Impact
To put it as simply as possible, Romo has been, and still is, one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the NFL. Not only on the field, but for fantasy football owners as well. Romo’s numbers have the potential to place him in the top-five of all quarterbacks for fantasy owners, and you can get get him somewhere between the 7th-9th rounds in most cases.
If you can get Romo at that point, after filling in the rest of your lineup with strong running backs, wide receivers and potentially a tight end, you’d be crazy not to get a quarterback who’s as consistent as Romo is. After Week 2 of the 2014 NFL season, Romo had two games where he didn’t have multiple touchdown passes, with one of those games being against the Washington Redskins, a game in which he was injured.
To sum it up, don’t sleep on Romo like the bulk of fantasy owners will, especially not a 100% healthy Romo.
