Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 10

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 10
Can Kirk Cousins return to QB1 status Week 10 against the lowly Saints' secondary?

Can Kirk Cousins return to QB1 status Week 10 against the lowly Saints’ secondary?

With more and more fantasy owners opting to wait on the quarterback and tight end positions in drafts, streaming each position has become a viable option. This is made easier by the fact that there are usually solid options on the waiver wire. Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for quarterbacks and tight ends who are less than 50% owned and could be worth starting for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Quarterback

Kirk Cousins – Washington Redskins (10% owned)
vs. New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been absolutely shredded through the air over their last three games, allowing 14 passing touchdowns, including seven to Eli Manning in Week 8. New Orleans is now first in the league in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, giving up 23.4 per game. Next up is Cousins, who has proven to be a serviceable fantasy quarterback when facing the right opponent. The matchup is right and Cousins has flashed multi-touchdown upside in favorable matchups before, including a three-touchdown game in Week 8 against Tampa Bay.

Matt Cassel – Dallas Cowboys (3% owned)
@ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It’s a rough week for streaming as most of the top options with under 50% ownership have difficult matchups. That brings us to Cassel, who most likely doesn’t inspire much confidence in fantasy owners. He has a few things going for him in Week 10, however. First, he has Dez Bryant back and Bryant appeared to be close to fully healthy against the Eagles in Week 9. He is talented enough to make any quarterback look good. The Tampa Bay defense has also struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks, as they are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing signal callers at 20.3 per game. That, along with a passing defense DVOA ranking of 29 by Football Outsiders, gives hope for optimism regarding Cassel’s chances this weekend. Cassel will head into this matchup on a high note, as he’s coming off throwing for 299 yards and three touchdowns against Philadelphia in his last game this past Sunday night.

Tight End

Kyle Rudolph – Minnesota Vikings (44% owned)
@ Oakland Raiders

Rudolph is the next tight end in line to face a Raiders’ defense that is allowing the most fantasy points in the league to the position. Rudolph has been a bit of a disappointment this season, but the big 6’6″ pass catcher still serves as one of the team’s top red zone threats. The Raiders are giving up an average of 13.8 fantasy points per game to enemy tight ends on the year, including some huge performances to Tyler Eifert, Crockett Gillmore, Martellus Bennett, and Gary Barnidge. For that fact alone, Rudolph is worth a look if you are in need of a tight end this weekend.

Eric Ebron – Detroit Lions (24% owned)
vs. Green Bay Packers

Perhaps a result of his Week 9 bye, Ebron is shockingly under-owned across fantasy leagues. He has scored a touchdown in three of his six games played this year and has seen five targets or more in all but one of those contests. He gets to take on a Packers’ defense that is allowing tight ends to average 8.8 fantasy points per game, tenth-highest in the league. Considering how bad Detroit’s defense has been this season, expect the Packers to get out to a big lead, thus forcing the Lions to throw the ball often.
