Stefon Diggs Becoming a Star?

Has the time arrived for Stefon Diggs to become the Vikings’ offensive catalyst?

The Minnesota Vikings were dealt a devastating blow before the season started, with their starting QB Teddy Bridgewater ruled out for the year with a leg injury. That left Shaun Hill in charge of this offense, and from a fantasy standpoint, everyone was talking about Adrian Peterson carrying the load for the Vikings.

Peterson will be fine, and ignore everyone else. That was the message.

Even with the trade for Sam Bradford, Vikings receivers were given very little attention in fantasy circles. Apparently, someone forgot to give Stefon Diggs the memo.

Diggs could be on his way to becoming a fantasy (and real) football superstar. He’s come out of the gate on fire, hauling in 16 balls for 285 yards and one touchdown. He looked good with Hill under center in Week 1, grabbing seven balls for 103 yards, but Diggs and Bradford could end up being special.

No other Viking has 100 yards receiving, or more than eight catches. Diggs has 40% of the Vikings’ completions through two games.

He seemingly can run every route and catch the underneath balls, but also able to stretch the field and make impressive catches while doing it. Bradford targeted him 11 times against the Packers, and he turned those into nine catches for 182 yards and a sensational touchdown in the back of the end zone.

With Peterson ineffective and gimpy, it appears this offense may run through Diggs. He has been able to create separation with his speed and shiftiness, and could be on his way to a big year. I’m looking for a reason that this won’t continue, and can’t find one.

He’s produced with two different QBs in two weeks and has had a very ineffective Peterson (31 carries for 50 yards) in the backfield. He will certainly end up facing better defenses (he faces Carolina and Houston in the next three weeks), and coordinators could start to move more coverage his way.

It’s tough to expect this level of production all year, but that’s the case for any receiver who has almost 300 yards in two games. I’m very bullish on Diggs and wouldn’t be surprised if he ended the year as a top 15 wide receiver.
