Let’s take a look at notable salary changes as we head into Week 5 of the NFL season.

Quarterbacks
Paxton Lynch (DEN): $6,800 vs. ATL (+$1,300)
Lynch took over for an injured Trevor Siemian late in the first half last week, and the rookie looked rather comfortable in the pocket. It’s not clear right now if Siemian will be able to play against the Falcons, but if he’s out, Lynch would emerge as a viable tournament play. He displayed his strong arm against Tampa Bay, and the matchup against Atlanta would provide another chance to show his skills. Keep an eye on this situation as the week unfolds.
Philip Rivers (SD): $8,300 @ OAK (-$200)
Rivers passed for more than 300 yards for the second consecutive week, and he will have a great shot at making it three in a row this week. The Raiders have allowed the most passing yards through four games, which makes the salary drop a bit of a head scratcher. I love Rivers for tournament lineups this week, and think he could wind up one of the highest scoring quarterbacks for Week 5.
Running Backs
Jordan Howard (CH): $7,200 @ IND (+$1,600)
The Bears intend on riding Howard as long as they can, which has resulted in a steep salary increase. The week of getting a free square in roster construction was short-lived, as I think you’ll need to give pause before arbitrarily plugging him into lineups this week. The Colts rank in the middle of the pack in terms of rushing yards allowed, and they’ve allowed five touchdowns through four games, so there is a bit of intrigue. Still, I’d keep this for tournament play only.
Latavius Murray (OAK): $6,100 vs. SD (-$1,000)
Murray had a brutal Week 4, and while I don’t like his prospects for the long haul, I think this big drop in price presents a buying opportunity for tournaments. The Chargers have allowed seven rushing touchdowns through four games, which is exactly what you’re searching for in GPPs. I expect some low ownership levels for Murray, so if you’re entering multiple lineups, give him some consideration in Week 5.
Wide Receivers
Terrance Williams (DAL): $5,500 vs. CIN (+$900)
Williams made the most of Dez Bryant being out last week, as he hauled in four catches for 44 yards and a score. His priced jumped the most among all receivers heading into Week 5, and if Bryant returns, his stock would be overvalued. Keep an eye on the status of Bryant heading into a home matchup against the Bengals, and give Williams consideration as a cheap play if he remains the WR1.
Julian Edelman (NE): $7,000 @ CLE (-$200)
Edelman has failed to score more than 10 FanDuel points in two straight games, but I am fairly certain that will change this week. Tom Brady returns to the controls in Week 5, as his suspension is now over. Look for the Patriots to come out very focused after a stinging loss at home to the Bills, with Edelman playing an integral role with his quarterback back under center.
Tight Ends
Hunter Henry (SD): $5,400 @ OAK (+$900)
Henry’s stock is on the rise, and his price reflects his role, as he is coming off of a fine outing against the Saints in Week 4. As long as Antonio Gates is on the shelf, I anticipate Henry continuing to have a prominent role in the passing game moving forward. Despite the hefty price hike, he remains a strong play in Week 5.
Dwayne Allen (IND): $5,600 vs. CHI (-$300)
Allen’s price is sliding back down, as he has failed to record a touchdown in three games since scoring in Week 1. The Colts return home to host the Bears, and I think Allen makes for a good tournament play now that his price has backed off a bit.
