With only a week to go until the 2017 U.S. Open, many Tour players are going to use this week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic as a tune-up for this year’s second major. One interesting tidbit, Steve Stricker withdrew from this week’s event in order to try – he ultimately succeeded – and qualify for the major. This is an impressive feat for the 50-year-old who refuses to let his age define his success. Anyway, you came here for the guys who won’t break the bank and will give you the most bang for your buck. Here are DraftKings value plays.

Stewart Cink ($8,000)
Cink lands on the list for the second week in a row. He finished T25 last week at the Memorial Tournament which makes it four top-25 finishes in his last six events for the veteran. The $8,000 price tag may seem steep, but consider that he has made 14/18 cuts so far this season. Also, his 74th ranking in driving distance does not matter as much at TPC Southwind as the par-70 track only boasts two par-5s. Birdies might be at a premium as the last two champions both finished -13. For a regular Tour event, this is a below average score for a champion and Cink might be able to make up some distance with stellar iron play.
Peter Uihlein ($7,200)
Uihlein has only played in three TOUR events this season, but he finished T5, T23, and T25 in said events. The 27-year-old has been a journeyman, but he may be coming into his own after his T25 finish at last week’s Memorial Tournament. He poured in 19 birdies last week, but also tallied four double bogeys. If he can find a little more consistency this week, the sky is the limit. Daniel Berger won this event last season for his first PGA Tour victory, so this could be a good sign for Uihlein as he looks to accomplish the same goal.
Kevin Tway ($7,400)
Tway boasts three top-10s so far this season, including back-to-back top-5 finishes at the Valero and Zurich back in April. He missed the cut last week at the Memorial but still has a shiny 57.2 FPPG even after the dud in Dublin. Tway is a masher, averaging 306 off the tee- good for sixth on tour. He sits at a solid price point, only a crisp Benjamin more than Vijay Singh and Ernie Els, two veterans who have not played well at all this season combining for six cuts made out of 23 events.
Harris English ($7,000)
English withdrew from the Memorial last week, and is looking to get into the U.S. Open next week so he will have some extra motivation to play well in the St. Jude Classic. Having only made two of his previous five cuts, English is having a down year. The pedigree is definitely there as English has two victories already in a young career, one coming at this very event back in 2013. He hasn’t been able to put it all together this year, but he sits at 30th in total putting which is nothing to be disappointed about.
Others to Consider
- Ricky Barnes ($7,300)
- Danny Lee ($7,200)
- Tom Hoge ($6,800)
Off the Cart Path
Ben Crane ($6,500)
Crane mimics English in that he won the St. Jude the year after English did in 2014. This season has not been kind to Crane as he sits at 161 in the FedEx Cup standings, but going back to a familiar place where you have had past success is always a nice remedy. Take a flier on Crane in order to free up some major dough for Rickie Fowler and Adam Scott.
