In Week 8, we saw a majority of owners ride Mark Ingram and LeSean McCoy for big weeks on their way to doubling up their money. This week, there is a similar pair of high-projected running backs that everyone will want to get their hands on. They are expensive, however, so expect to see people spending down at other positions this week to be able to squeeze the two backs under their budget. Let’s take a look at how it should turn on this week’s FanDuel slate.

Quarterback

There isn’t much in the way of safety this week with Deshaun Watson out, which would usually mean ownership would be spread around quite a bit more than it is. The reason three players are projected for over 60% of the action is that there are so many crummy matchups this week for the second tier of quarterbacks. Don’t play it too cute in cash games. Rather, make sure to get your hand on one of these three.
Running Back

Kareem Hunt has now gone five consecutive weeks without scoring. Don’t expect that to keep up though, as he has over 100 total yards in all but one game so far this season. He should fly into triple-digits once again in a shootout against Dallas. Todd Gurley is both safe and has a monster floor against New York this weekend. Do your best to get one or the other into your lineup, and if you can somehow find a way to afford it, jam them both in there. Beyond them, there are a handful of other plays worth considering including Miller against the Colts. Rather than going cheap on some of these high upside plays, you’ll be better served sticking with the certain volume.

Wide Receiver

We’ll be able to afford spending up at the running back position this week because the four top plays in our model are all under $8,000. Julio Jones isn’t necessarily safe, and will see the majority of his ownership in GPP contests, but Michael Thomas and Dez Bryant should both see above 50% ownership in cash games with strong matchups and a large expected target share. If you need to get your hands on some serious value, Devin Funchess should take over as the #1wide receiver for Cam Newton this week in what may turn into another shootout.

Tight End

We aren’t exactly seeing vintage Jimmy Graham, but he does have 4 touchdowns in his last three games and is coming into a terrific matchup at home against the Redskins. For that reason and his price, he will likely be the highest owned, but with the dominant Zach Ertz, who is also in a solid matchup, right behind him despite the lofty price point. Jack Doyle rounds out the top three as a superb value play coming off a 12 reception game last weekend.
Defense

In cash games, expect to see Jacksonville at near 70% ownership. If you ask me, that is too low because there is no sense in considering anyone else for cash games as the Jags should pile up 5+ sacks and multiple interceptions against the shoddy Bengals’ offensive line. For GPP contests, the Jags are, of course, a solid play, but there are several others who stand out as tantalizing options like the Cardinals against C.J. Beathard and Philly against Brock Osweiler.
