Q1. Who is your top waiver wire option of the week, and why?

It’s got to be Jalen Hurts. How he’s still available in 65 percent of leagues is beyond me. We saw his passing take a step forward last week and we already know his rushing upside. Even if you’re not going to play him, snag him because you don’t want your opponent to.
– Mike Tagliere (@MikeTagliereNFL)

Unless you, your opponent, and anyone who could possibly have an impact this week has a top 3 or 4 quarterback, then it’s Jalen Hurts. This shouldn’t require all that much of an explanation. 63 yards rushing, 338 yards passing, and four total touchdowns against the Cardinals. High floor? Check. High ceiling? Check. Banged up defense that can’t really stop opposing offenses? Check? Playoff hopes still somehow alive? Check! Against the Cowboys, Hurts is going to fall into “must-start” territory and should not be left on free agency in any league.

Last week, I incorrectly faded Jalen Hurts. I was skeptical of the one-game performance and I didn’t want to completely buy into the hype when I had a lot of film to fall back on in college where he didn’t really impress me. I’m not making the same mistake twice. Hurts is my top waiver wire pickup this week and he absolutely deserves to be in your starting lineup as a mid-range QB1 this week against Dallas.

Q2. Which notable waiver wire option for Week 16 was the most difficult to rank?

It’s John Brown. He’s now been out for four weeks, which could mean that he’s eased back in. It’s probably best to avoid him, but a matchup with the Patriots without Stephon Gilmore did seem somewhat appealing.
– Mike Tagliere (@MikeTagliereNFL)

Salvon Ahmed. Ahmed performed exceptionally well against the Patriots with 23 carries for 122 yards. I’d have zero hesitation about making him a top pickup with a soft matchup against the Raiders. But I am expecting Myles Gaskin to be activated from the COVID-19 Reserve list, and at the very least, there is uncertainty about it. And if Gaskin comes back, it’s unclear how the Dolphins would split the workload at running back. Ahmed is worth a pickup, but just how valuable he will be remains an open question.
– Dan Harris (@danharris80)

At this point of the season, all of them are pretty difficult to rank. However, Salvon Ahmed was a little bit more difficult to figure out exactly where to place him. He’s coming off a fantastic performance against New England, but there’s the possibility that Myles Gaskin comes back next week. As of right now, Ahmed’s still worth picking up and potentially playing next week, but if Gaskin does return to the lineup, he won’t carry as much upside.

Q3. For managers streaming a D/ST in Week 16, what readily available option (under 40%) should they target?

Many were scared to roster Washington against the Seahawks last week, but they remain the sixth-highest scoring defense this year and have generated four-plus sacks in five of their last eight games while forcing nine turnovers in their last five games. Meanwhile, the Panthers have allowed three-plus sacks in six different games this year.
– Mike Tagliere (@MikeTagliereNFL)

Washington is always a solid option that is widely available.  For the most part, the Football Team almost always manages to pile up sacks with its consistent pressure, and Teddy Bridgewater has been sacked seven times over the last two games. Washington won’t be an elite option this week, but they’ll be a passable one, and the best of the widely available options.
– Dan Harris (@danharris80)

The Cardinals D/ST is coming off of two pretty solid performances and they now get the 49ers offense that is struggling to move the ball. They should be able to create pressure on Nick Mullens routinely and they’re going to be a solid DST option for your championship lineup.
