Is DeAndre Hopkins Playing in Week 3? (Fantasy Football Injury Updates)

DeAndre Hopkins has been exactly what fantasy managers has hoped this season. While he’s yet to top 100 yards in a game this year, he already has three touchdowns and plays on an offense that looks to be one of the best of the 2021 season. However, Hopkins enters Week 3 with a rib injury that has him listed as questionable to suit up. So, is Hopkins going to suit up Week 3 against the Jaguars? Here’s the latest.

DeAndre Hopkins ‘will attempt to play’ in Week 3

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins (ribs) “will attempt to play” in Week 3.

Fantasy Impact:

Deemed a game-time call, Rapoport is suggesting that Hopkins will try to play through the ribs injury. One of the most durable wideouts in the NFL, Hopkins has only missed two games in his nine-year career and hasn’t missed one since 2019 in Houston. If Hopkins is indeed up, he will likely get Shaquill Griffin in coverage. Keep in mind the situation for Hopkins. Not only should you monitor reports leading up to game time in case he will play with limitations, but facing the Jaguars, he could be a decoy or taken out early if the Cardinals dominate this game. Still, if Hopkins is active, it will be hard to sit him.

What the Experts are Saying

DeAndre Hopkins is performing exactly how fantasy managers hoped he would when they drafted him as a top-5 WR off the board. He’s the WR6 on the season up to this point and he’s found the end zone in back-to-back games to begin the year. With the way this Cardinals offense is performing, Hopkins has a very good chance of finishing the season as the overall WR1 if his target share and red zone opportunities continue. Looking ahead to week three, Hopkins is expected to draw coverage from C.J. Henderson in this matchup, who is allowing an 83% catch rate so far this season and 1.12 Yards Per Route Covered. The Jaguars secondary is going to have their hands full with the plethora of receiving weapons Arizona boats, which means that Hopkins is going to have plenty of one-on-one opportunities this week. If he’s able to suit up, he can be viewed as a top-5 option yet again.

The Jaguars would prefer to put second-year corner C.J. Henderson on Hopkins. It’s a matchup Hopkins should win, but it’s the best hope Jacksonville has of keeping Arizona’s star receiver from going berserk. Unfortunately for the Jags, Henderson is dealing with a groin injury and is considered questionable for this weekend, which forced the team to sign Nevin Lawson. If he’s healthy enough to play, Hopkins is going to be a big part of the Arizona game plan regardless, but if he’s up against someone other than Henderson all day, look out.
