Is Josh Jacobs Playing Tonight in Week 1? (Fantasy Football Injury Updates)

Players can’t escape injury. Even the first week of the season. As is the case every week of the NFL season, several players carry questionable injury designations into the weekend. One such player on Monday night’s slate is Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. So, is Jacobs going to suit up tonight against the Ravens? Here’s the latest.

Josh Jacobs (illness) trending towards playing Monday

Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was placed on the injury report with a non-COVID illness on Sunday, but is now trending towards playing and should be good to go. It’s also worth noting that 100% of the Raiders are fully vaccinated.

Fantasy Impact:

It’s great news for fantasy managers who were hoping for a Monday Night miracle out of Jacobs. Jacobs figures to be the lead back for Las Vegas but has his upside capped with newly acquired Kenyan Drake in the backfield as well. It will be interesting to see if Drake gets an increased workload with Jacobs’ illness, as it’s likely the Raiders determine the split based on how Jacobs is feeling during the game.

What the Experts are Saying

After seeing his entire offensive line dismantled, Josh Jacobs watched the Raiders front office bring in another RB to this backfield on a pricy deal via free agency. With Drake in this backfield now, all hope for Jacobs’ increased involvement as a receiver came crashing down. While Jacobs should remain heavily involved as a runner, the path for upside is now capped with the state of the offense around him. Additionally, the schedule to start the year for Jacobs is absolutely brutal. The Ravens allowed the second-fewest rushing touchdowns per game last year on average with only. 7 and they were top-6 in rushing yards allowed per game. This is where Jacobs will need to make his opportunity count and it’s going to be tough sledding for him out there. Jacobs is a low-end RB2 at best this week if he’s able to suit up.
