Kenny Pickett plays with third team through spring practices

Fantasy Impact: The rookie out of Pitt was expected to play with the third team early on while learning the playbook, but it was somewhat surprising to see him get no reps with the first or second team. Pickett’s current ADP is 199, and he is the 26th QB off the board, five ahead of teammate Mitchell Trubisky who took all of the first-team reps during the spring. Whether the Steelers are easing him to his NFL career or he will be stuck with the third team remains to be seen, but fantasy managers should be aware of the QB battle and draft Pickett with caution in anything other than dynasty leagues.
Mitchell Trubisky impresses with first team in practices
Mitchell Trubisky received all of the first-team snaps in the Steelers’ spring practices, but head coach Mike Tomlin stated all three QBs on the roster have a chance at the starting job. (Source: Mark Kaboly on The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact: The 27-year-old is the most experienced in the QB group, including Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett, and he seemed to run offensive coordinator Mike Canada’s motion-heavy offense fluidly. He displayed accuracy with his deep passing, including landing a perfect throw to rookie George Pickens. His current ADP is 196, and he is being taken as the 31st QB. He could see a slight boost with a solid receiving corps if he is named the starter, but fantasy managers should still look at him as a low-end QB2.

Kenny Pickett 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook
Kenny Pickett gets the draft capital we covet in dynasty going in the first round. The Pitt product stays close to his alma mater with the landing spot with the Steelers. Pickett should compete for the starting job in camp with Mitch Trubisky in a system that should highlight their mobility in the pocket. If he can overcome the yips against pressure behind a still leaky offensive line, Pickett could return mid to low-end QB2 numbers with a talented set of pass-catchers, including Najee Harris, Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and Pat Freiermuth around him.
Mitch Trubisky 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook
After backing up Josh Allen in Buffalo last season, Trubisky will get a chance to start, this time with the Steelers. He’ll have to beat out first-round rookie Kenny Pickett, however. Trubisky’s 2018 season with the Bears raised hopes; his 2019 and 2020 seasons dashed them. Running ability and an NFL-caliber arm raise hopes that Trubisky’s fantasy value can be rehabilitated.
