Kyler Murray: contract extension expected before training camp
Jeff Darlington reports there is a “reasonable likelihood” a deal between Kyler Murray and the Cardinals is done before camp begins on July 25th. (Source: Jeff Darlington on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The drama between Murray and the Cardinals that occurred in February seems far in the rearview mirror. The extension is coming soon and will likely surpass Derek Carr’s recent three-year deal worth $121.5 million. Murray finished as the fantasy QB10 in just 14 games played last year, posting his best advanced passing stats on a per-game basis of his career. Continue to draft Murray with confidence as a QB who can certainly finish within the top three at the position in 2022.
Jessie Bates III and Bengals have made ‘zero’ progress on long-term deal
The Bengals and franchise-tagged safety Jessie Bates III have made “zero” progress on a long-term deal. The two sides have until today’s 4 p.m. EST deadline to come to an agreement, but all signs point to that being an unlikely outcome. (Source: Tyler Dragon on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The 2020 second-team All-Pro safety has not yet signed his franchise-tag tender, and has “no intentions” to report to the team’s training camp that begins July 27, according to Tyler Dragon. With Cincinnati adding Dax Hill and Tycen Anderson in the draft, along with already having talented safety Vonn Bell on the roster, the team could now see Bates III as an expendable asset. Trade rumors have swirled all offseason, and this latest development could bring those rumors to fruition.
Rashaad Penny projected to step into workhorse role
Bob Condotta projects Rashaad Penny to be Seahawks’ “primary back” and potentially see 20-plus carries per game to open the 2022 season. (Source: The Seattle Times)
Fantasy Impact: Through the final six weeks of 2021, Penny was the top scoring running back in total points, averaging 17 carries per game during this stretch. With Russell Wilson now in Denver, the Seattle offense as a whole likely takes a step backward. But this news is an encouraging sign for Penny, who despite missing most of his career thus far due to injuries, showed flashes of fantasy football greatness to close out last season. Penny is currently ranked outside of the Top 30 at his position, and could easily end up being a draft day steal in many leagues if he can stay healthy and continue to dominate as he did to end 2021.
