Kyle Philips standing out in joint practices

Titans rookie wide receiver Kyle Philips continues to impress during training camp. He thrived during 1-on-1s and 2-on-2s with the Buccaneers’ defensive backs, then got open again and again. As Jim Wyatt of the team’s official website writers, “Philips put a move on Buccaneers defensive back Logan Ryan that nearly sent him to the ground. Philips was also a big factor in the 7-on-7 and team periods, especially near the goal line.” (Source: TennesseeTitans.com)

Fantasy Impact: Drafted in the fifth round out of UCLA, Phillips has seen first-team reps for part of camp but failed to haul in his lone target during Week 1 of the preseason. He should make the roster but is still competing to earn meaningful snaps in 2022.

Tyquan Thornton named the biggest surprise of camp

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports named wide receiver Tyquan Thornton the biggest surprise of Patriots training camp because he did not expect the rookie to get involved and thrive as quickly as he did. “Not just a straight-line blur, he’s outstanding at changing speeds and setting up sudden breaks,” wrote Curran. “He’s shown physicality and toughness despite being shaped like a Q-tip. He’s got excellent body control. He’s mature. I’m excited to watch him.” (Source: NBC Sports)

Fantasy Impact: The Patriots spent a second-round pick on Thornton and, if all goes well, hope he can start for them come Week 1. The speedster has quickly formed a strong rapport with Mac Jones but currently ranks 112th among receivers in the latest ECR.

Jahan Dotson flashing big-play ability, polished route running

Commanders rookie wide receiver Jahan Dotson, who went untargeted in Week 1 of the preseason, has impressed during training camp, showing off big-play ability and polished route running. (Source: Washington Post)

Fantasy Impact: Dotson should open the season as the No. 2 receiver behind Terry McLaurin. He should give Carson Wentz a reliable, safe target in the Washington offense, all while helping to move the ball down the field. The rookie currently ranks 62nd among receivers in the latest ECR.

Jelani Woods stands out with increased opportunities

Colts tight end Jelani Woods showcased his impressive size and speed while catching three passes during 11-on-11 drills on Thursday, according to Joel A. Erickson of the IndyStar. Woods is poised for increased opportunities after up-and-coming rookie Drew Ogletree tore his ACL. (Source: IndyStar)

Fantasy Impact: Woods is a physical, athletic specimen, running a 4.61-second 40-yard dash despite measuring in at 6-foot-7 and over 250 pounds. He showed off his hands and shook off tacklers during Thursday’s joint practice with the Lions, boosting his value as the backup to Mo-Alie Cox.
