2023 NFL Draft Guide: Prospect Rankings & Player Profiles

Dynasty Rookie Quarterbacks: 2023 NFL Draft Prospects

Max Duggan (QB – TCU)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

Max Duggan is a productive, tough quarterback who makes sound decisions with the football, shows appropriate touch on his passes, and offers the ability to pick up yardage with his feet on designed runs or as a scrambler. However, he has below-average physical tools, relatively pedestrian arm talent, and occasional issues with ball placement that either result in incompletions or limit yards after the catch. Those limitations may make him more of a backup/spot-starter at the pro level, projecting as more of a mid-round selection.

Projection: Round 5

Jaren Hall (QB – Brigham Young)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

He is a quarterback who gets the fundamentals right, makes good decisions with the ball, and shows impressive touch and placement to most of the field, but whose tools are somewhat limited, being shorter than a typical passer and lacking ideal velocity on his throws. Those limitations may lead him to be viewed as more of a long-term backup or spot-starter at the next level, but he could carve out a long career as a smart and reliable game manager in an offense based around short, rhythm-based passes. Probably more of a mid-round option.

Projection: Round 4-5

Hendon Hooker (QB – Tennessee)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

Has really made a name for himself the past two years, with Tennessee emerging as one of college football’s best teams in 2022. Certainly has some pro-style traits: is a tall, composed passer from the pocket with pretty sound fundamentals, impressive touch on his passes, and the ability to make plays with his feet, but ball placement is not as consistent as it should be, and was running a relatively simplistic offense where he often had ample time to hang in the pocket and wait for his primary read to uncover. Consequently, will probably face an adjustment period at the next level and is perhaps best considered a developmental quarterback.

Projection: Round 3

Tanner McKee (QB – Stanford)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

A pure pocket passer with a very impressive combination of size, decision-making, arm strength, accuracy, and touch, he didn’t have the junior year many were expecting, but has shown clear starting-caliber talent and has the potential to be one of the first four or five passers taken on draft day. Coming from a program with a more pro-style offense than is common at the college level, should have a relatively easy time adjusting to the pro level. As a relatively safe-looking prospect, could go anywhere within the first three rounds, depending on how teams weigh his tools versus his college production.

Projection: Round 2

Anthony Richardson (QB – Florida)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

Major boom-or-bust type prospect with a tantalizing combination of size, athleticism and arm talent, but was highly inconsistent in school, especially when the team wasn’t running play-action. There are major warning signs mostly relating to accuracy and his willingness to take risks rather than giving up on plays. Could be a high-end starter if he continues to develop, and there’s some reason to believe that with better protection, some of his bad habits will be limited. It’s possible someone decides to take a chance on him in the first round and that he is too talented at too important a position to drop too far.

Projection: Round 1-2

Will Levis (QB – Kentucky)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

A player whose high-level physical and mental attributes will likely earn him a spot among the first 10 or so picks in this year’s class, although there are certainly some issues with weight transfer and accuracy. It’s fair to wonder why he didn’t dominate in conference play like you’d like to see from a top prospect. Has the ceiling of a high-end starter with a relatively high potential to bust, so risk tolerance among teams may lead to somewhat divergent grades. Would ideally be able to sit behind a veteran for at least part of his rookie season.

Projection: Round 1

Bryce Young (QB – Alabama)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

Was considered the favorite to go first overall in this year’s class after his Heisman campaign, but wasn’t able to replicate that success as a junior. Could still end up being the first pick in the draft and will certainly hear his name called very early, but may no longer be the consensus top passer. Consistently does things few other passers do, with a rare combination of playmaking skills, decision-making, anticipation, and accuracy that will have quarterback-needy teams at the top of the draft salivating.

Projection: Top-5 Overall Pick

CJ Stroud (QB – Ohio State)

2023 NFL Draft Summary

Probably the quarterback in this class with the most impressive combination of processing, anticipation, decisiveness and touch on downfield throws, traits that currently have him regarded as one of the top prospects in the class. Needs to continue to clean up his mechanics and may never be a dual threat, but as a pure pocket passer, it’s hard to find prospects more advanced at this point in their development.

Projection: Top-Five Overall Pick
