Cam Smith Dynasty Rookie Draft Outlook

I’m betting Smith is going to be used to cover the Slot WRs in the NFL, which is a more and more important role in the league. The trait most talked about for Smith is his instincts and knowledge, he’s always in the right spot and isn’t going to be fooled, and his motor doesn’t come off high. Smith’s aggressive play style can get him the ball but more often gets him beat even though he’s in the right spot. Smith also has some issues bringing down the ball carrier with a career missed tackle rate of just over 16% (Witherspoon, who also has tackling issues, is 13.5%), playing over the middle will most likely give him some help behind him and in zone plays he can try and make a play on the ball. Cam isn’t going to blow people away at the combine, but his instincts and motor should keep him in the 1st round.

Cam Smith 2023 NFL Draft Outlook

Could well be the most physical cornerback in this year’s draft class, putting a ton of pressure on opponents from press coverage and showing excellent footwork, quickness, and twitch to stay glued to receivers in man. Has been handling difficult assignments at the SEC level for the past two-plus seasons, which should also soften his learning curve. Those traits make him a potential number-one corner at the next level, a likely first-round pick, and potentially even the first player off the board at his position.
