PGA DFS Picks: The Sentry (2024)

PGA DFS Picks: The Sentry (2024)

Aloha to 2024 and the return of professional golf to the DFS lobbies. The PGA Tour rings in the new year in one of the only places in the United States where the weather in early January is conducive to championship golf. The Plantation Course at Kapalua sits on the Hawaiian island of Maui and paints a gorgeous destination golf course along the picturesque cliffs jutting from the Pacific Ocean.

The Sentry 2024 DFS Picks & Predictions

The Sentry, formerly known as the Sentry Tournament of Champions, has expanded to a 59-person invitational field comprised of most of the champions from yesteryear and the remainder of the top-50 golfers in the 2023 FedEx Cup standings. Kapaulua is the only par-73 track on Tour and stretches to a monstrous 7,600 yards.

Depending on the trade winds and any El Niño squalls, the scoring will range from a moderate struggle to breakneck birdie barrage. The fairways are expansive. They are so wide that Jordan Spieth has won here before. The greens are also ample, rolling nice and slow with smooth Bermuda surfaces that allow the players to be aggressive with their scoring opportunities.

Since this is a limited-field, no-cut event, The Sentry is riddled with chalky pitfalls for DFS lineup architects. Certain popular plays, especially at the high end, will be inevitable to be optimal. The key will be to fade the mid-range and value chalk and build leverage outside a couple core plays. I use Fantasy National for ownership percentage estimates, but most sites are pretty good at accurately gathering that data.

For the duration of the 2024 PGA Tour season, I will put my DFS player pool on display for guidance and entertainment purposes. The plays and fades will be divided by DraftKings salary and whether or not they are trending to be leveraged or chalky. Mahalo nui loa for joining me this season, let’s tee off.
