2024 NFL Draft Outlook
Kool-Aid McKinstry (CB – Alabama)
A very polished, pro-ready cornerback in all aspects of the game, his technique, route-recognition skills, discipline and awareness are arguably all elite-level traits. Those should allow him to step into a starting lineup early in his career, providing consistent play, whether in press or shuffle techniques and in either man or zone coverage. Will almost certainly be among the first few cornerbacks off the board, likely in the first round.

A prototypical man-cover prospect, with an impressive combination of confidence, speed, twitch, flexibility, and ball skills that could make him a number-one cornerback at the next level. His development trajectory has been very good over the past couple years, and consequently he looks like a strong bet to come off the board in the first round as one of the top three or four cornerbacks picked. Which Alabama corner goes first will depend on whether teams prefer Arnold’s tools or McKinstry’s relatively more refined technique and recognition skills.

A leaner, faster pass-rusher than Alabama usually produces. He looks like the fastest, smoothest and most flexible edge defender in this year’s class. Combined with his ability to use his length to keep linemen out of his pads and play off of blocks in the run game, has the look of a future first-round pick. Would probably be best suited as a weak-side edge in a scheme that lets him work out of two-point stances relatively frequently.

A very powerful edge defender who has really come into his own this season, his combination of explosive power and relentlessness has made him one of the most effective bull-rushers in the class. While he’s officially more of a sub-package defender for the Tide, he plays starter-level snaps, and shows the discipline, awareness, and lower-body strength to two-gap effectively in the run game on early downs. Coming from a highly-respected SEC program, should be able to work his way onto the field early in his pro career, although to really reach his full potential, it’d be nice to see him continue deepening his repertoire of rush moves and counters. Should be a second-day pick.
