Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Adam Ottavino, Jake Meyers, Miguel Vargas

The best players in the world play on NFBC, and the most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which has a $1750 buy-in with a $7000 league prize and a $200,000 overall prize. Thankfully for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups on Sunday night.

Each week, I will be looking at the most popular FAAB fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should get them for our own leagues.  I am not going to lie, this was a pretty boring week of FAAB fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups

Miguel Vargas (OF – LAD)

Vargas is a former top prospect that struggled in his first go around last year, but was killing it in AAA this season. He was picked up in 49 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $68 and a minimum bid of $3. However, his biggest issue will likely be opportunity. The Dodgers are stacked, and it seems unlikely he will find full-time playing time with them.

Adam Ottavino (P – NYM)

Ottavino was picked up in 49 leagues with a max bid of $58 and a minimum bid of $1. With Edwin Diaz struggling, it appears the Mets will move to a committee, and Ottavino could be a larger part of that. I expect Diaz to get the job back once he is pitching well, so overinvesting in Ottavino could be a mistake.

Jake Meyers (OF – HOU)

Meyers was picked up in 39 leagues with a max bid of $57 and a minimum bid of $2. He has been hot this season, hitting .290/.355/530 with five home runs and two stolen bases. He is hitting the ball harder than he has his entire career and is a good defender as well. If he can hold a full-time role, he has a lot of value in Houston, but he has never been able to before.
