Dynasty Rookie Draft Pick Review

1.02 – Malik Nabers (WR – NYG)

Malik Nabers, emerging from a robust 3-year stint at LSU, led all college wide receivers with 86 receptions, 1,546 yards, and 14 touchdowns during his junior year, boasting a 34% dominator rating. Over his collegiate career, he totaled 186 receptions for 2,983 yards and 21 touchdowns, marked by a standout 28% career college dominator rating-third among 2024 draft class WRs. Notably, Nabers broke out as a freshman at 18, indicating significant potential for early professional success. Now with the New York Giants, he is poised to become the team’s top receiver from the outset. His ability to generate yards after the catch (YAC) reassures concerns about the team’s quarterback situation, enhancing his fantasy value.

2.02 – Jayden Daniels (QB – WAS)

The Washington Commanders selected this dynamic run-pass threat with the No. 2 pick in the draft and are hoping they’ve found a long-term answer at quarterback. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy last year, throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns at LSU, with only four interceptions. He also ran for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns. Daniels completed 72.2% of his throws in his final college season and averaged an outrageous 11.7 yards per pass attempt. Daniels probably won’t be able to replicate that sort of passing success in his first exposure to NFL defenses, but Daniels’ rushing ability should make him immediately playable in fantasy leagues.
– Pat Fitzmaurice

3.02 – Drake Maye (QB – NE)

Drake Maye lands in what appears to be a less-than-ideal situation. In 2024, he’ll be operating behind an offensive line that ranked 29th in pass-blocking grade (per PFF) while tossing the rock to a pass-catching depth chart that features Kendrick Bourne, Demario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Juju Smith-Schuster, Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, and Tyquan Thornton. Yikes. Big time YIKES! The good thing for Maye is that by the time he takes over as the starter, things could be better. With Jacoby Brissett on the roster, we could see Maye sit for a few games (maybe his entire rookie season). Even if Maye does start Week 1, we could see him protected inside of a run-heavy offense. During offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt’s tenure in Cleveland, he ranked 15th in neutral pace with the sixth-highest neutral rushing rate. Maye’s possible ceiling in the NFL and in fantasy remains intact long-term, but don’t expect him to come out of the gate posting gaudy stat lines or operating in a pass-first scheme. Maye is still in play inside the top eight rookie picks in Superflex formats and the top 12-15 selections in 1QB leagues.
– Derek Brown

  • 4.02 – Kimani Vidal (RB – LAC)
  • 5.02 – Dylan Laube (RB – LV)
