We absolutely crushed it at the RBC Canadian Open last week. Despite not even rostering tournament winner Robert MacIntyre, the player pool was strong from top to bottom. The top of the leaderboard was glittered with last week’s column features and it feels really good to sweep the board with huge profits again.
The next two weeks on the PGA Tour have massive implications. The Memorial Tournament, at Jack Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, is a grueling test leading into next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. The elevated purse brings a stellar field to the Golden Bear’s lair. Scottie Scheffler is back in action, along with many other champion golfers and the top performers this season.

Muirfield Village is a doozy. While its picturesque beauty is made for the television screen, the nearly 7,600-yard par-72 track is one of the most difficult courses on the rota. The entire golf bag will be tested. Missing fairways is a good way to knock one’s self from contention, hacking through snarling Bentgrass rough. The greens are tiny and harshly sloping, while also rolling at a blistering pace. Nicklaus, like myself, enjoys a bit of carnage. The golfers who aren’t entering the week in good form will be exposed. Conversely, the best all-around golfers who limit mistakes and capitalize on opportunities will be rewarded at Muirfield Village.
The key metrics are heavily weighted from tee to green this week, with further emphasis on approach. Par-5 scoring and bogey avoidance are also heavily considered. Recent form, combined with past success at this venue, round out the most important factors to building a pool of around 25 golfers. I may play some chalky (popular) golfers, but the key to winning at PGA DFS is by leveraging the field with low-rostered players who perform well. A fade means I will have less exposure to a player than his projected rostership percentage. With a hearty “Yes, Sir!” Let’s dig in.
